Museum Field Notes
What the Future Holds
More detailed designs for the Future Museum were released this spring and we’ll take a journey from the current exhibits into the imaginations of the design team. From miniature models to fighting fossils, the future awaits!
This Space Left Intentionally Blank
What wild words do our minds conjure in the absence of knowledge? Who is this furry fella and what’s with his fishy friend? Sue and Ven tour the second and third floors of Milwaukee Public Museum in search of informational vacuums to fill with their thoughts.
Time Travel: Exit Through the Gift Shop
“When I was a child of 7 or 8 years of age, I fell in love with the items contained in this box.” Sue receives a surprise gift from a loved one that comes with a special link to Milwaukee Public Museum and a window into the history of paleo art.
Selves Portrait 2: Parasitism
Sue and Ven recount their trip to the Field Museum in Chicago while sharing a new artwork about Sue the T. Rex’s skull. They also celebrate and lament the ever changing process of science.
“King and Queen of the Pelicans We”
Ven visits the pelicans of Milwaukee Public Museum and then encounters the wild pelicans of Door County. So many pelicans! So many “lovely leathery throats and chins”!
Selves Portrait 1: Symbiosis
Sue and Ven merge symbiotically to bring you a very important message about interconnectedness. Get ready for lichen love and emergent selves.
The Objects & The Process
Sue takes a look at the role of natural history museums and the processes of science and art. What are all of these lovely objects? And more importantly, what are they for?
The Nythentea of Nuhl
Ven shares the results of their research into the Nuhl archives and brings some old friends back to life. Remember folks, de-extincting things is only safe through the careful lens of a hind-eye.
The Silurian Reef
Sue and Ven uncover the hidden mysteries of a limestone quarry and a popular beach. It’s all connected and the museum might just hold the clues. Meanwhile the conical nautiloids wrap their tentacles inside your dreams.
The Third Planet
Sue and Ven begin a new exploratory journey into the world of the Milwaukee Public Museum. They enter the museum’s dark drama; a world of fossils, taxidermy, and home to a thriving mannequin population. Questions will be raised, though there is no promise they’ll answer them.
